Wout Faes’ impending move to West Ham United in progressing, with a medical now officially scheduled in London in the coming hours.
The Hammers have been scrambling for final additions to their squad after a wobbly start to their Championship season, and, according to Sacha Tavolieri, have identified the Leicester City defender as a key target and have verbally agreed a deal.
Medical Tests Ahead
Now, in an update from Tavolieri, Faes is now set to head down the M1 from Leicester to London in order to undergo the medical checks this afternoon ahead of a move to West Ham.
It comes after Russell Martin confirmed that the 28-year-old was out of his plans for the time being amid speculation around his future, with reports back at the start of the summer stating that former loan club Monaco could be keen on another loan move.
The Foxes have been scrambling for new defensive options this window regardless of Faes’ future, having clinched a deal for Ilari Kangasniemi, and have been tipped with a swoop for Coventry City’s Joel Latibeaudiere before the window shuts.
They have been handed a major boost in their hopes of keeping Harry Souttar amid interest from elsewhere, with Leicestershire Live revealing that Wrexham had never actively pursued a deal for the Australian, despite other claims.
The Belgian spent the first half of last season in the East Midlands prior to his Monaco move, and played 15 times in the Championship, in a season which ultimately ended in a shock second successive relegation for the club.
Are Irons Making A Mistake?
With a milquetoast start to their Championship season under Nuno Espírito Santo, West Ham United are looking to strengthen arguably their position of greatest weakness in defence.
Airidas Golambeckis has been called upon to make his Hammers debut this season alongside Max Kilman, and with Jean-Clair Todibo expected to leave amid reports that he is heading to Lens on loan, other options are needed.
Wout Faes has picked up a reputation in England as of late following Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League, with his two own goals against Liverpool a particular event used as a beating stick for the Belgian.
Having played a part in a Monaco side which struggled to keep clean sheets during the second half of the Ligue 1 season, he now looks set to head to West Ham, and with his reputation, it may not be the most well-received signing to make.
Nevertheless, with plenty to prove following his past few seasons, Faes is likely to want to redeem himself, and in a strong squad like West Ham’s, he could find himself revitalised.
