Middlesbrough winger sensation Morgan Whittaker could face a deadline-day departure from the Championship, as Colorado Rapids are in talks to sign the Englishman for a club-record fee.
Whittaker has been a standout player ever since his big-money move to Teesside from Plymouth Argyle during the 2024/25 season. The previous 2025/26 campaign caught the attention of many, scoring 14 and assisting seven as Boro fell to defeat in the Championship Playoff Final.
He was a key part of the Teessiders’ success last season, but it seems that his time in North England could be coming to a close, with an MLS side in talks to complete a large-sum move for the 25-year-old.
Whittaker Set For MLS Move?
According to Ben Jacobs, Colorado Rapids are in talks to complete a club-record transfer for Middlesbrough winger Morgan Whittaker.
The Englishman has made 66 appearances for Boro, while also possessing plenty of Championship experience from his time at Swansea City, Derby County, and Plymouth Argyle.
It would take a large fee to secure Whittaker’s signature, especially on deadline day, but with the Teessiders previously selling stars such as Emmanuel Latte Lath to the MLS for a big money fee, a move certainly cannot be ruled out.
Is It Too Late To Complete A Deal?
With there being mere hours left in the summer transfer window, it seems unlikely that Middlesbrough would be willing to sell Whittaker, as they would not have a lot of time to replace their star.
Despite that, a large fee could tempt Boro into a late move. They still have players such as Jeremy Sarmiento, Tommy Conway, and Max Arfsten who are more than capable of succeeding in the right winger role.
If Boro could find a suitable replacement transfer in time before the deadline and the Rapids offer a fee they cannot refuse, it would not be that surprising to see Whittaker not be a Championship player by the end of the transfer window.
