Swansea City captain Ben Cabango could face a shock last-minute transfer this deadline day, as West Ham United are linked with the centre-back as they look to add defensive reinforcements in the final hours of the transfer window.

Cabango has been with the Swans for his entire career, graduating from their academy in 2018, and his only season since that has not been spent in South Wales was when he enjoyed a valuable loan spell with The New Saints during the 2018/19 season.

He has now made 279 appearances for the club at the age of 26, and was elected as captain after Matt Grimes departed the club for Coventry City in the 2024/25 season.

Despite his cult hero status in Swansea, his time in SA1 could soon be over, as a fellow Championship club is showing interest in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

Cabango To West Ham?

According to Pete O’Rourke, West Ham United are exploring a last-minute deal for Swansea City captain Ben Cabango in what would be a shock move for the Welshman.

The 26-year-old could be open to a move to the Hammers, but it is unlikely that the Swans would be willing to part ways with their captain with only a few hours left in the transfer window to source a replacement.

Despite the South Wales side strengthening in the transfer window at the centre-back position, a departure for their captain would mean that they would certainly need to source a replacement before allowing him to leave.

Is A Deal Possible This Late?

It is certainly going to take a fee that the Swans would not be able to refuse in order for them to part ways with their captain with barely any time left in the transfer window.

West Ham is certainly an exciting opportunity for any player this season, with the Hammers having ambitions of promotion back to the Premier League after their relegation last season.

Swansea would likely need to find a replacement before they would sanction a sale for their star defender, but it is certainly not impossible to see the Welshman make the switch this evening.
