Leicester City manager Russell Martin has confirmed he expects Wout Faes, Stephy Mavididi and Hamza Choudhury all to leave the club by the end of the transfer window next week.
The Foxes have started life in League One in dreadful fashion. Widely tipped to push for the title, they have picked up just two points from their opening three games to sit just outside the relegation places.
Yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Martin’s former club MK Dons was met with a degree of frustration amongst supporters. This comes after a summer of change at the King Power Stadium, which has seen an array of incomings and outgoings.
More Departures On The Horizon
Despite a number of big money departures, it is expected that more players will be shown the exit door in the coming days. This includes Wout Faes, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.
That deal included an option to buy but despite making 16 appearances, the French side opted against a permanent move. Although he remains in the East Midlands, the Belgian international is yet to make a matchday squad this season.
Stephy Mavididi is another who has been linked with a move away all summer. Scottish giants Rangers have been heavily linked, as have Championship side Middlesbrough. The winger hasn’t featured in League One but did start the Carabao Cup win over Northampton Town earlier this month.
Finally, Hamza Choudhury is one player who appears to be on the brink. News emerged earlier today that the midfielder will hold a medical with former club Sheffield United later today.
Martin Delivers Update
With just two days remaining of the current transfer window, Martin has admitted that the trio are unlikely to be at the club by the time 11pm hits on Tuesday. Speaking to Leicestershire Live, the ex-Southampton boss said:
“I think yes and no. I think they’re aware of the interest that is in them, each individually.
“But it’s never that simple as just, OK, there’s interest [and] that’s done. So it has to fit both parties. Like I’ve said, the club won’t be forced into letting anyone go that’s not right for us and them.
“There’s a real balance because people that want to play elsewhere and don’t want to play here, they have to be prepared to still be here. To be fair to those guys, they really have. We have to be prepared for them to be gone or to stay. And I think it will be updated as and when.
“But I expect all three players, something will get to a level where everyone is happy. I couldn’t tell you where, I don’t know if they could yet. But yes, that’s the expectation. But I think the transfer window always surprises you.”
Leicester are next in action on Tuesday night when they face Tom Cleverley’s Plymouth Argyle.
