Huddersfield Town have joined an ongoing League Two chase to secure the signing of a National League midfielder, as their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign continue.
The Terriers missed out on the play-off places in League One last season and have already been busy in the transfer market – recruiting the likes of Ethan Brierley (Brentford), Matt Young (Sunderland) and Ashley Fletcher (Blackpool) as they attempt to go one better next time out.
This will likely include further transfers, with the club also saying goodbye to several members of their first-team squad, as part of their respective plans to try and make a return to the Championship this season.
With that in mind, it appears as though a new potential target has been identified.
Huddersfield join League Two chase
This summer has already seen several National League standouts make moves off the back of the 2025/26 campaign. York City‘s Malachi Fagan-Walcott joined Scottish Premiership runners-up Hearts for over a million pounds, whilst Eastleigh’s Kieron Evans has signed for Newport and Scunthorpe United’s Cal Roberts reuniting with Notts County.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Wealdstone playmaker Dylan Kadji could become the latest player to earn an EFL switch – following interest from Huddersfield Town as well as League Two duo Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town.
The 22-year-old joined Wealdstone from National League South side Weston Super-Mare last summer, off the back of an impressive campaign with six goal contributions.
Kadji scored twice and assisted another for the Stones last season, as well as playing a crucial role in their run to the FA Trophy final, featuring for 93 minutes before being substituted for Olufela Olomola just before the penalty shootout – with Olomola missing the first spot kick.
The midfielder is under contract at Wealdstone until June 2027, meaning any move for him this summer would require a transfer fee.
Is Kadji ready for the EFL?
Though he is relatively inexperienced in terms of first-team minutes in the Football League, Kadji has had prior stints in the EFL whilst breaking through in senior football.
Kadji has featured for Bristol City, Swindon Town and Forest Green Rovers in the EFL during the early parts of his career – though opted to move into Non-League in order to try and gain regular first-team exposure and return to the promise land later down the line.
It is also important to note that Wealdstone themselves aren’t strictly a ‘full-time’ side at present, operating more with a hybrid structure as oppose to someone like Huddersfield who train daily.
Wealdstone reached the FA Trophy final last season and achieved their highest finish since the 2022/23 season, though could have been higher than 15th had they not finished the season with just one win in their final seven matches in the National League.
Whilst the step between League Two and the National League is shortening every season, the gap up to League One is growing – meaning a move to Huddersfield would be a significant step up for Kadji and at his age, he may prioritise minutes – seeing him either staying at Wealdstone or moving up one tier.
