Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town are reportedly leading the race to sign Leeds United forward Harry Gray on loan, with Barnsley and Wigan Athletic also linked with the 17-year-old.
Gray is regarded as one of the leading young players coming through at Elland Road, and Leeds are said to be open to allowing him out on another temporary move after his spell with Rotherham United during the second half of last season.
According to reporter Alan Nixon, via Patreon, Wednesday and Huddersfield are at the front of the queue for the England youth international. Barnsley and Wigan have also been credited with interest, but the Owls and the Terriers are understood to be ahead of both in the race for a loan deal.
For Sheffield Wednesday, it would be a move for a young forward with recent League One experience and a clear development pathway at Leeds. Gray had his first taste of regular senior football with Rotherham last season, making 20 league appearances and scoring three goals. The Millers were ultimately relegated, but the loan gave him exposure to the physical and tactical demands of the division.
Huddersfield are also said to be firmly in the mix as they look to strengthen their attacking options. Gray can operate across the forward line, with former Rotherham boss Matt Hamshaw previously discussing his ability to play as one of two strikers, as a number ten, or from the right. That flexibility is likely to be part of the appeal for clubs considering a loan move.
Hamshaw spoke highly of Gray during his time with Rotherham, describing him as an intelligent player with the ability to operate between the lines and provide a goal threat. He also said the youngster was working regularly on areas such as finishing and hold-up play, while continuing to ask for extra work in training.
Gray has already made his senior debut for Leeds, coming on as a late substitute in a 6-0 Championship win over Stoke City in April 2025. He was also part of the Leeds squad that won the 2024/25 Championship title, and has represented England at youth level.
He is the younger brother of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Archie Gray, while his wider family has strong Leeds and Scotland connections through Andy, Frank and Eddie Gray.
A decision on his next step would give Leeds another chance to continue his development in senior football, while Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield appear to be the two clubs best placed at this stage. For either club, the appeal is obvious: a technically gifted forward with League One minutes already behind him, and a parent club likely to place a heavy focus on where he will play regularly.
