Swindon Town are facing a battle with other EFL sides in order to secure the loan signature of Hull City‘s Ramell Carter.
The Robins are looking to redeem themselves after a late-season collapse cost them the chance of promotion to League One, with Ian Holloway’s side knocked down to ninth place by the end of the season.
Tigers Talent Eyed
Now, with recruitment firmly on the mind of every club ahead of the summer transfer window officially opening next week, Town are beginning to line up moves for key targets on their shopping list.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, one of those is Hull City youth player Ramell Carter, who would be set for his first loan spell away from the Premier League newcomers.
While no other sides are named in his report, it is believed that there are multiple suitors eyeing a move for the youngster, who moved to Humberside in 2014 from the Tottenham Hotspur youth setup.
Having been handed a professional contract by the Tigers upon turning 18, the striker has been regularly representing the East Yorkshire side’s under-21 ranks and is now seemingly ready to make the step into senior football.
However, O’Rourke notes that any deal for Carter would come later in the window, with Sergej Jakirovic looking to include him in Hull’s first-team pre-season training plans as they gear up for a return to the top flight.
Holloway Needs Depth
While they have some strong options currently at the club to spearhead their attack heading into next season, adding some different dimensions to that line-up will be critical for Swindon Town to succeed next season.
Aaron Drinan is a known quantity and will be hopeful that he can repeat the heroics that earned him the League Two Golden Boot, but behind him there are concerns with who he might be partnered with at the County Ground.
Harry Smith is still on the road to recovery after an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury suffered at the very start of last season, and Ollie Palmer may not be able to replicate a solid season acting as a rotation option for Fletcher Holman.
Adding an untested face to his options in Ramell Carter may be the final piece of the puzzle needed for Town’s front line, but other options are needed, particularly in the wider areas following the release of Junior Hoilett and Billy Bodin.
