Recently, Aldershot Town’s Director of Football revealed his team were considering adding to their striking options, but who could they turn to in the coming weeks?
The Shots currently find themselves 14th in the National League standings, with just one win in their last four games across all competitions, scoring just once during that time.
Despite their strong start to the campaign, Aldershot’s ongoing goal drought has seen them slip down the standings. League form alone, Scott Davies’ side have won just two of their previous nine matches and haven’t scored more than once in a game since their 5-1 victory over Tamworth.
Aldershot’s Director of Football addresses goal drought:
Prior to last weekend’s narrow victory over struggling Gateshead, Director of Football Terry Brown was interviewed by BBC Sport Surrey‘s sports editor Robin Grey regarding the possibility of signing a striker, to which he stated..
“I think that would be the obvious solution and I think every fan would look at that and say ‘well have we hit it off up-front?’
“The three wingers we have have done well but haven’t really contributed goals… we are looking at the possibility of loaning a striker in and that’s something I know Scott (Davies) is actively pursing now.”
No further details have been provided, other than the reveal that it will be a temporary agreement rather than anything permanent.
With that in mind, here are four potential options that Aldershot could consider…
Aidan Dausch (Coventry City U21s):
Following two frustrating loan spells in the National League last season due to injuries and tactical changes, Coventry City U21s forward Aidan Dausch could be a player of interest for the Shots.
Dausch began the 2025/26 season with Forest Green Rovers, scoring during their FA Cup clash with Luton Town but was largely out of favour under Robbie Savage.
After being recalled, the 20-year-old linked up with Scunthorpe United but was often used as a substitute winger due to his speed and dribbling capabilities.
Since returning from injury, Dausch has scored twice for the Sky Blues’ U21s and could be set for another loan spell in the National League over the coming weeks.
Hugh Parker (Hull City U21s):
Admittedly, this suggest would rely on a development elsewhere – however another name that could find its way onto Aldershot’s list is Hull City U21s forward Hugh Parker.
The 20-year-old is currently on loan at fellow National League side Scunthorpe United, but has contributed to just four goals thus far in what has been a challenging start to life at the Iron, just months after his stint with Carlisle United came to an end.
Parker impressed with UCD AFC before making his move to the Tigers and has continued to be a frequent scorer at youth level, but has had issues at first-team level thus far.
If the Iron (or Hull themselves) were to pull the trigger on the deal, Aldershot could swoop in and land the forward for themselves.
Herbie James (Cardiff City U21s):
After completing a transfer to Championship new-boys Cardiff City back in February, forward Herbie James could be a realistic target for the Shots.
The 19-year-old has started the current campaign in a positive vein of form, scoring three goals including a strike during a recent 2-2 draw against Coventry City.
James joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur, ensuring a move to Aldershot would allow the forward to return to the London area and have his first taste of men’s first-team football.
His physicality and finishing capabilities within the final third suggest he could add goal-scoring pedigree to the National League side, potentially opening up a January switch to an EFL side
Sean Patton (Reading FC U21s):
A man that needs little introduction to the Aldershot faithful is Reading forward Sean Patton, a player who had a standout stint with the Shots last season.
The 20-year-old joined the Shots in January and went on to score five goals as well as providing an assist in just six appearances before being recalled a month later, spending March in the first-team fold before returning to youth football once again.
Patton scored against Nottingham Forest‘s U21s in the Premier League 2 last month but has struggled for minutes this season with minor injuries also playing their part.
Though a return could be seen as unlikely, Patton’s lack of minutes as well as the relationship between the two teams make a case that he could return to Aldershot to try and regain his form and momentum, ahead of the January transfer window.
Aldershot fans, what are your thoughts on these suggestions?
