Hull City have agreed a deal to sign Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United, as the former Tigers loanee is set to reunite with manager Sergej Jakirovic after a fantastic spell last season, helping guide them to promotion to the Premier League.
Gelhardt had the best season of his career last year with Hull, finding the net 15 times alongside five assists as they returned to the top flight of English football thanks to a dramatic playoff final win over Middlesbrough.
Many clubs have expressed an interest in the Englishman this summer, with Birmingham City being close at one stage to bringing the striker to the Midlands.
Despite this, the former Wigan Athletic academy graduate has finally made a decision about his future, as a move across Yorkshire is reportedly now agreed.
Hull Agree Gelhardt Deal
According to Baz Cooper, Hull City have agreed a permanent deal to sign current Leeds United and former Tigers loanee striker Joe Gelhardt.
The 24-year-old is set to sign a four-year deal at the MKM Stadium, with the club moving very quickly over the last few days to beat out interest from other clubs to secure his signature.
Gelhardt has seen success in two separate loan spells with the Tigers, and he is now set to permanently join the club as they look to begin their return to the Premier League.
A Shrewd Signing for Hull?
After two successful seasons with the club, it is no surprise to see that both Acun Illicali and Sergej Jakirovic were very keen for Gelhardt to return to the club on a permanent transfer.
Both the Tigers’ fans and the player himself made their feelings very clear that a return to Hull was always the move that was the most ideal situation.
The Englishman, provided there are no late issues with the deal, could be in the squad for City’s game against Nice this Saturday, and will be a huge boost for his new team as they begin their Premier League return campaign next weekend as they host Manchester United.
