Walsall are bracing themselves for interest in key player Courtney Clarke before the end of the transfer window, with League One’s Bromley said to be keen on a move.
The 23-year-old joined the Saddlers on a two-year deal last summer after catching the eye at non-league outfit Eastbourne Borough. He made 50 appearances in his debut season in the West Midlands, contributing with two goals and seven assists.
His form at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium earned him a first international call-up for Jamaica in May. The versatile midfielder scored on his debut in a 2-0 win over India.
Bromley ‘Eyeing’ Bid
Clarke has featured in all four of Walsall’s opening games in all competitions, starting two. Although initially brought in as a wing-back, he has also featured in a more central position, including the 0-0 draw with Grimsby Town last weekend.
He has played a key role in Lee Grant’s side good start to the season, in which they have kept four consecutive clean sheets. They also sit third in the League Two table after two outings with four points.
This has led to interest from Bromley, who are looking to strengthen their squad further by the end of the transfer window next week. According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the Ravens are ‘eyeing a move’ as they look to build on their own fine start.

The League One newcomers have enjoyed an exceptionally busy summer and announced their 16th signing of the window earlier today. This saw Mikel Miller arrive at Hayes Lane after departing Huddersfield Town at the end of last season.
Could Walsall Sell?
It’s true that every player has their price but Walsall won’t be in any hurry to agree a deal here. Although they have made 14 signings themselves, Clarke is a player that looks to be on the rise.
The former Derby County youngster has a little under a year remaining on his existing deal. However, the Saddlers do possess a clause which can see them trigger a 12-month extension.
Bromley may well be keen but it is unknown as to whether they have the funds to tempt their former league rivals into selling. It appears unlikely and if there is any truth to this rumour, it is going to take some persuading to convince Walsall into selling.
