Bolton Wanderers manager Steven Schumacher has praised one player’s performance against Doncaster Rovers.
Schumacher’s side sits 3rd in League One, destined for the play-offs as they are 10 points behind 2nd place Cardiff City, but nine points clear of Huddersfield Town in 7th.
Despite that healthy gap over Huddersfield, the Bolton manager would have likely expected his side to pick up all three points against bottom-half side Doncaster Rovers.
With just one point in the bag from that game, Schumacher still praised his side. He was also pleased with the performance of on-loan forward Johnny Kenny, labelling the Celtic man as “excellent” in the game.
Schumacher Praises Celtic Loanee
Speaking to Wanderers TV after the 0-0 draw with the South Yorkshire side, Schumacher said:
“I thought Johnny Kenny was excellent – everybody deserved to play who started the game.”
The 22-year-old Irishman played the full 90 minutes for Bolton, receiving a 6.2 rating from Sofascore.
Despite not scoring, Kenny was a threat throughout the game for Bolton. He had five shots in total, but only one on target.
The Celtic youngster finished the game with nine carries, two of which were progressive, totalling 47.6m.
How Has Kenny Done This Season?
Since joining on loan from Celtic, Kenny has played seven times, starting four of those. He has picked up an average rating of 7.01 in his appearances for the Lancashire side.
His best performance came against Exeter City. The forward scored his one and only goal so far for Bolton in that game, helping them to a 5-1 win.
Despite not scoring as many as he would have probably liked, Kenny has been a creative threat for the side.
In seven League One games, he has three assists and averaged 1.3 key passes per game. His first assist came in the same game as his goal, with his other two both coming against Rotherham United in their 2-2 draw.
Before joining Bolton on loan, he had played 15 Scottish Premiership games for his parent club, scoring four times.
If he can match that number and help Bolton back to the Championship, Kenny will likely see this as a successful loan move.
