Peterborough United’s search for Luke Williams’ successor has taken yet another twist after reports that Karl Robinson was seen leaving the Weston Homes Stadium yesterday.
It’s fair to say that it’s been somewhat of a rollercoaster at the League One side these past few weeks. A poor start to the season saw Williams shown the exit door following a 2-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers earlier this month in a result which left Posh languishing in the bottom four.
Whilst the search for a successor began, Ryan Harley and Connell Rawlinson were put in interim charge of first team affairs. They led the team last Saturday where despite an improved showing, they suffered a 1-0 reverse at Stockport County.
Savage Confusion
Forest Green Rovers boss Robbie Savage emerged as a shock contender over the weekend when reports stated he was a ‘serious contender’ for the role. The former Birmingham City and Wales midfielder was questioned over the rumours prior to his side’s 3-3 draw with Sutton United on Saturday, where he claimed he was unaware of any interest.
This was soon followed by the National League outfit revealing that they had received an approach from a then-unnamed EFL club and that Savage would not be in charge for last night’s clash against Wealdstone. It was then heavily rumoured that an interview had been set up for Monday, with ex-Oxford United head coach Matt Bloomfield also in the running.
Things then got even more confusing. Rovers owner Dale Vince released a statement confirming Savage had been offered the job at Peterborough, and they were in the process of negotiating the relevant compensation. This was then denied by Barry Fry, via The Peterborough Telegraph.

Robinson Now In The Frame
If the Savage situation isn’t confusing enough, it appears as if there is something behind Peterborough’s denial. We already know that Bloomfield was due to be interviewed yesterday, although he seemingly isn’t the only candidate to have been spoken to in the last 24 hours.
According to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, former Charlton Athletic and Oxford boss Karl Robinson was seen at London Road yesterday. The 46-year-old had been heavily linked to the role prior to the weekend, but it does appear to still be an option.

Robinson has been out of work since he was dismissed by League Two outfit Salford City at the end of last season. His exit from the Peninsula Stadium was widely criticised after he guided the Ammies to a fourth-placed finish before losing in the play-off final to Notts County.
It is expected that despite the confusion, Posh will make announce their decision before the end of the week.
