Peterborough United are expected to announce who has won the race to succeed Luke Williams in the dugout at the Weston Homes Stadium, according to reports.
Posh announced the departure of the 45-year-old earlier this month following a 2-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers. It was a result which left the Cambridgeshire-based side languishing in the bottom four with just one win from their opening seven games.
Ryan Harley and Connell Rawlinson were put in interim charge for last weekend’s trip to Stockport County. Despite an improved showing, a lack of cutting edge in front of goal ultimately proved costly, with the home side edging the encounter 1-0.
Interviews Taking Place This Week
Rumours emerged at the weekend that Forest Green Rovers boss Robbie Savage was amongst the candidates set to be interviewed, prompting the former Birmingham City and Wales midfielder to address to speculation. Speaking ahead of a 3-3 draw against Sutton United, he said:
“I don’t know (if there has been contact), as I say, I have a game to prepare for, I’m just excited to watch my team. Nothing distracts me from my job. I’m passionate, I care, I’m emotional and relentless in what I do and what we do as a group.”
It has seen been all-but-confirmed that Savage is in the running. Forest Green announced yesterday that their manager won’t be in charge for tonight’s clash against Wealdstone.
Ex-Oxford United head coach Matt Bloomfield is also expected to be interviewed for the role. The 42-year-old has been out of work since departing the Kassam Stadium in the summer.
When Will An Announcement Be Made?
According to The Peterborough Telegraph, interviews will continue throughout the week. Chairman Darragh MacAnthony is conducting the process from the United States, with a decision expected to be announced before the end of the week.
This weekend’s home fixture against Notts County has been postponed due to international call-ups. This means that the new recruit could be in the dugout for next Tuesday’s EFL Trophy outing against Ipswich Town under-21s.
Posh are next in action in League One when they face a tough trip to Leicester City, who have endured an indifferent start to the season themselves. Despite beginning the campaign as one of the favourites for promotion, the Foxes sit 14th in the table after seven games.
More dropped points at the King Power Stadium against a team sitting in the relegation places would ramp up the pressure on manager Russell Martin another notch.
