League Two side Oldham Athletic are amongst the competition for Halifax Town’s Will Harris this January, according to reports from Pete O’Rourke.
Scoring his fourteenth goal of the season last night, which proved decisive against Morecambe, the striker is subject to a range of interest from the division above.
Oldham Athletic need a striker this month, after star forward Michael Mellon sustained a hamstring injury during a Boxing Day draw with Grimsby Town.
Before his injury, Mellon had scored four goals in four league outings and was subsequently shortlisted for League Two Player of the Month, proving a huge blow in the club’s forward department.
Oldham Athletic Face League Two Competition for Will Harris
As previously mentioned, Oldham Athletic will face competition from fellow League Two sides if they are to secure Harris’ services this window.
Accrington Stanley and Crawley Town are joining the Latics in pursuit of the emerging striker; however, with the Shaymen currently sat just outside of the National League play-off spots, club negotiations may be difficult.
Crawley are currently sat just one point above the relegation zone, with the risk of back-to-back relegations very possible. However, the Red Devils have acted swiftly to improve this January, making a number of signings this winter, with the likes of Ronan Darcy, Danilo Orsi, and Kellan Gordon returning to the Sussex club.
Meanwhile, Accrington Stanley could benefit from adding an up-and-coming goalscorer to their ranks to help maintain their respectable midtable position.
Will Harris’ In Line for EFL Return
Playing alongside Josh Hmani, Harris has been one of the standout forwards in England’s fifth tier, with this campaign being a real breakthrough for the 25-year-old.
Starting his career for Sunderland, the loan striker had previously played League Two football with Barrow during a loan spell in the 2021-22 campaign. However, he failed to make an impression at Hoker Street.
Years later, he became prolific for National League North outfit Spennymoor Town in the 2023-24 season, but last season was disappointing for Harris as he struggled to follow up the successes of the previous season.
Making the move to West Yorkshire in the summer, Harris’ impressive form in the first half of the 2025-26 season appears to have caught the eye of the League Two trio, who could be returning to the fourth tier over the next week.
Now making strides in his career, it will be interesting to see if Halifax Town hold firm for their key man with interest from above circling.
