It has been confirmed that forward Freya Godfrey has signed a new three-year contract with London City Lionesses. It comes after the confirmation of her permanent contract last summer.
The club have confirmed that she will remain at the club until the summer of 2029. Previously voted as player of the season, her dedication has earned her a new contract with the team.
Previous Career
Godfrey began her career with Arsenal at the age of twelve. From there, she developed into an outstanding young player and worked her way up with the club.
The forward has also represented the country from a young age, playing for England since her call-up for the under-fourteens. Her international career did not end there, as she was called up in every youth rank from then.
She has since been called up for Sarina Wiegman’s squad three times across the season, but is yet to be handed her first cap with the senior side.
Much of her time in the WSL so far has been spent at Arsenal, when she signed on from the academy in 2017. She has also spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic.
Time With London City Lionesses So Far
The 21-year-old joined the Pride on loan in November 2025 and had a fantastic debut season at The Copperjax. Her debut season saw seven consecutive appearances for the club.
After signing a permanent contract last summer, the England international earned Player’s Player of the Season for 25/26. She achieved six goals and four assists.
A New Contract
Now that the young star has signed a new three-year contract with the Pride, hopes are high for her continued success with the club. She spoke fondly of her time at London City up to now:
“I’m made up to sign a new contract here at London City.
“I’ve loved my time here so far. It was amazing to win the Championship title in 2025 and to represent the club in their first WSL campaign where we had a really strong season.
“We have world class players here, people who have won World Cups, Champions League titles and know what it takes to win.
“I’m training and playing alongside players I looked up to when I was growing up such as Nikita Parris, who I watched for years in the national team, Daniëlle van de Donk when I was at Arsenal, and Delphine Cascarino is one of the best wingers in the world.“To have players like that to train alongside every single day is indescribable.“A big part of a young player’s development is game time and having been given time, I feel I’ve come on leaps and bounds on the pitch and also off the pitch.
Good News for the Lionesses?
So far, Godfrey has proven herself as a vital member of the team for London City Lionesses. Having won Player’s Player of the season and contributed to their WSL campaign, it is clear that she is beloved by her team.
She has also expressed clear excitement to extend her contract with the Lionesses. Her enthusiasm will ensure that she continues to do all that she can at the club.
It is set to be an exciting time for Eder Maestre’s side as they look to become one of the top sides in the league. They are also set to sign Barcelona icon and World Cup winner Alexia Putellas, a surefire sign that Michelle Kang is keen to back her side to secure silverware.
