Burnley’s move for Wales manager Craig Bellamy has officially fallen through, after reports just 24 hours prior suggested that the move was practically completed.
The Welshman was reportedly set on the move to Turf Moor, as it would have seen him return to the club where he was assistant manager to Vincent Kompany, but now as the main man in charge.
Both clubs will now have issues to sort out, as the Clarets will need to scramble to find another option, and Wales will have a decision to make on whether to keep Bellamy after he made it clear that he wanted to leave his role.
Bellamy to Burnley Move Collapses
According to Ben Jacobs, Burnley’s deal to make Craig Bellamy their new manager has fallen through due to issues surrounding his backroom staff also making the move to Turf Moor.
This news came as a surprise to many, including the FAW, who had already begun searching for his replacement in recent days. Names such as Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards had been strongly linked to the job.
It has been reported that the Welshman’s backroom staff are all set to stay at their domestic clubs, making it impossible for him to join the former Cardiff City man in Lancashire.
What Now for Wales and Burnley?
For Wales, the 46-year-old will now return to his post and is expected to stay with the national team. However, it will be up to the FAW to decide whether they want to keep him after his clear intent to leave his role.
Burnley will now have to turn their attention to other candidates ahead of their Championship season, with Steve Cooper now reportedly being a name that is linked to the Clarets’ job after his links to the Wales job in recent days.
It has now created an awkward situation for both parties involved in this situation, and if the move is now completely impossible, both teams involved will have huge decisions to make in the coming days.
