Leicester City are reportedly in talks to complete a deal to sign Swansea City’s Liam Cullen, as Russell Martin looks to reunite with the Welshman who was a key part of his side during his time in South Wales.
Cullen has been at Swansea his entire career, with him being one of their many academy graduates in recent years. His only departures from SA1 coming on a single loan spell to Lincoln City.
The 27-year-old has made 194 appearances for the Swans, but it appears his time at the club may be coming to an end, with a recently relegated side into League One seemingly close to a deal for the midfielder.
Cullen to Leicester?
As reported by Only Swans, and confirmed by Darren Witcoop, Leicester City are in talks to sign Swansea City midfielder Liam Cullen on a permanent deal.
The Welshman has been a key part of the Swans’ squad for the last four seasons, with him making over 40 appearances in the last three. However with ambitions high at the Swansea.com Stadium, it appears his time in the team is now ending.
Darren Witcoop also reports that Cullen is not the only Swansea player Russell Martin is targeting, with another, unnamed player potentially being a target for the Foxes.
A Good Move for Both Parties?
Although it is always good to have players such as Cullen who know exactly what it means to be a Swansea City player, it is likely better for the Welshman that he makes the move to League One to ensure consistent game time.
Leicester are an ambitious club and want to bounce back to the Championship immediately, so signing someone who is very familiar to playing in a Martin system, is a safe bet for the Midlands club to help them on their quest for promotion.
If Swansea can command a solid fee for their hometown star, it should be a good move for both sides. As well as for the Welshman, who can finally have a chance to again cement himself as a starter for what should be one of the best sides in League One next season.
