Football Lowdown has learned that reports linking former Huddersfield Town winger Mickel Miller to Lincoln City are inaccurate, and the 30-year-old is not in talks with the newly promoted Championship side.
The Imps secured promotion to the Championship for the first time in over 60 years by winning League One at a canter. With 103 points and a record-breaking 29 games unbeaten, they brushed everyone aside as they finally achieved their goal of second-tier football less than ten years after promotion from non-league.
Huddersfield Town were in the Premier League as Lincoln began their climb, but they have fallen to League One and were the last team to beat the Imps in any competition. Miller, formerly of Carshalton Athletic and Plymouth, was on their books last season, although he missed all three games against the Imps.
Some reports linked him with a move to Sincil Bank last night, suggesting the player and club were in talks. However, sources close to Football Lowdown have revealed that isn’t the case, and Miller is not a player Lincoln City are actively pursuing. Released by the Terriers at the end of last season, he is on the lookout for a new club, but at 30, he has to convince a new employer he is able to stay as injury-free as possible.
Miller has appeared in the Championship for Plymouth Argyle and Rotherham United, as well as impressing for Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premier League. Sadly, just 19 EFL starts across two seasons for Huddersfield have proven problematic, and his injury record will be of concern to any serious suitor.
Lincoln are preparing for their first season in the Championship since it rebranded, and have aimed high in terms of transfers. Linked with Barney Stewart and Luke Graham, both valued at over £1m, they eventually broke their transfer record when signing Romanian international Andrei Coubis from Universitatea Cluj this week. They have dipped their toe into the free agent market, signing former Hull City defender Callum Elder to add Championship experience to that solid League One championship-winning squad.
