Sheffield Wednesday are set to sign Hull City forward Mason Burstow on loan as the former Bolton Wanderers man looks for regular game time.
The 22-year-old was a regular under Steven Schumacher as part of the Trotters’ League One playoff triumph, playing in 45 matches and scoring 12 times across his season-long spell.
Owls Strike Key Deal
With his former loan club exploring a move towards his fellow strike partner in Johnny Kenny from Celtic, a move to Sheffield Wednesday has emerged for Burstow as reported by the Sheffield Star.
In a follow-up from the Hull Daily Mail, a deal is expected to be struck with the Owls over the former Chelsea prospect, and he will not join the Tigers on their pre-season trip to Istanbul.
Talks are scheduled to be accelerated in the coming 24 hours, with it being believed that Burstow will head to Hillsborough in order to complete the final touches on a loan move.
News of his move comes just hours after it was reported by Alan Nixon that Wednesday had lost out on Tommi O’Reilly, who instead opted to move to fellow League One side Notts County after they entered the race for his signature.
The Premier League market has been used multiple times by Henrik Pedersen’s side, having also signed Louie Barry and Sil Swinkels from Aston Villa, while also securing the services of Leeds United‘s Harry Gray.
Final Piece Found
In what has been a highly successful window in terms of transfers for Sheffield Wednesday, arguably the only thing they had left to do was find a new striker to lead the line this season.
After scouring a few options, including a former Owl in Callum Paterson from MK Dons and Fraser Bryden prior to his move to Chesterfield, they have seemingly secured Mason Burstow, who could be the perfect addition for their title aspirations.
Supported by Louie Barry, Harry Gray and Callum Slattery, the Hull City forward should be given plenty of chances to score and once again shine as the main man in a team, having been slightly overshadowed by the efforts of Johnny Kenny in the final months of the season at Bolton Wanderers.
Having finally secured a new striker, Wednesday should be in perfect shape to try and boost themselves back into the Championship and give Burstow enough of a chance to prove himself as a future star for Hull City.
