Shrewsbury Town are keen on making a move for Stoke City‘s Favour Fawunmi after his tough loan spell at Leyton Orient.
The Potters struck a deal with the League One club to loan in the 20-year-old winger, but he struggled for minutes under Richie Wellens and only played seven times in the third tier during the second half of last season before a hamstring injury struck him down.
Salop Eye Deal
Now, according to Alan Nixon through his Patreon channel, Shrewsbury Town are keen on signing Fawunmi on a season-long loan in their bid to strengthen under Gavin Cowan.
Following a successful end to the League Two campaign for the New Meadow side, the former Telford boss has been handed a new contract and has already made several moves in order to improve his squad.
They have already targeted some new forward options this window and have already secured the services of Luton Town’s Joe Gbode on a loan deal.
Fawunmi has made five senior appearances for Stoke since his debut in the FA Cup two seasons ago, but opportunities in Staffordshire are limited due to the successes of Sorba Thomas and Million Manhoef.
Game Time Crucial
Having failed to really pick up any regular game time while at a struggling Leyton Orient side before his loan was cut short, it seems that Stoke may be willing to send Favour Fawunmi into League Two to try and hand him experience.
Shrewsbury Town would not be the worst of destinations, and with Joe Gbode’s signing signalling that Gavin Cowan is willing to try out other formations from his favoured wing-back play last season, it could be the ideal move.
The 20-year-old did not have the best of times at Brisbane Road prior to injury, but heading to Shrewsbury could put him in a much more positive environment, with Salop looking upwards following their recent resurgence.
While he may not be the first name on the teamsheet every week, Fawunmi could learn a lot while competing with players like Tom Sang and Gbode for action and should get plenty of minutes across the campaign.
