Leicester City have missed out on Myles Peart-Harris, with Middlesbrough agreeing terms for the free-agent winger.
The 23-year-old left Oxford United in the summer following their relegation to League One, bringing to an end a six-month and 20-appearance spell at the Kassam Stadium.
Boro Win Race
Since his departure from the Yellows, multiple sides have coveted the former Brentford winger’s services, with Football League World reporting earlier in the week that both Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers are eyeing a deal.
The Foxes, under the guidance of Russell Martin, have been seeking free agent transfers this window amid their financial worries, having also identified Conor Chaplin and Peterborough United’s Archie Collins to move to the King Power.
City are in need of new wide options heading into the upcoming season, with Manchester City striking a £10 million fee for Jeremy Monga, and are on course to also sanction an exit for Abdul Fatawu following an opening bid from West Ham United.
However, they have failed to win the race for Peart-Harris, with The Northern Echo revealing that the former Chelsea prospect was on Teesside in order to facilitate a transfer to Middlesbrough.
Following that, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reported that a deal had been struck and the 23-year-old is set to play at the Riverside next season.
Kim Hellberg’s side will be keen to bounce back from their near miss at promotion, and are in need of a new, flexible option that can play both centrally and out wide to support Riley McGree and Morgan Whittaker.
Where Do Leicester Go Next?
Having missed out on Myles Peart-Harris, Leicester City will now have to look elsewhere in order to find a new forward option this summer amid the impending exits of Abdul Fatawu, Jeremy Monga and Stephy Mavididi.
The sales of that trio, plus whoever else will be on their way out of the East Midlands this summer, should give Russell Martin a healthy budget to try and reconstruct a side that just two years ago were in the Premier League.
One option that could be on the table is Salford City‘s Kelly Nmai, who has been frequently been tipped with an exit from the League Two club over the past two years.
While injury issues have plagued him, the Dutch winger has been a standout in the fourth tier for his pace and attacking prowess, and could also play in a central role and as a supporting striker, which could provide much-needed flexibility for the Foxes.
