In a climactic final weekend of League Two action, Bromley were confirmed as champions, Cambridge United secured the third automatic promotion place at the expense of Salford City. In contrast, Notts County, Chesterfield and Grimsby confirmed their places in the playoffs. At the other end of the table, Barrow and Harrogate Town were relegated to the National League, while Crawley Town and Tranmere Rovers narrowly avoided the drop with respective draws.
GK – Jordan Wright – Newport County
The former Nottingham Forest man has been County’s number one this season and Saturday’s tight 2-1 win over Barrow not only relegated their opponents but secured survival for his side. He saved a penalty from Josh Gordon and showed a commanding presence throughout to secure another season in League Two.
RB – Nicholas Tsaroulla – Notts County
The Cypriot was man of the match in their 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers as the Magpies confirmed their place in the playoffs. Tsaroulla was ever-present down the right-hand side, driving his team forward whilst scoring a goal in the 27th minute.
CB – Omar Sowunmi – Bromley
The 30-year-old has been a stalwart for Andy Woodman’s side this season, and Saturday’s 3-1 win over Walsall was no exception. He scored his seventh goal of the season whilst pulling off several key headed interceptions.
CB – Dynel Simeu – Oldham Athletic
Since arriving on a short-term deal in January, Simeu has looked solid at the back for Micky Mellon’s side. The weekend’s 3-0 win over Accrington Stanley showed why Simeu looks good for a long-term contract, as he scored and won a large majority of his defensive duels.
LB – Frankie Terry – Colchester United
Deployed at left-back by Danny Cowley, Terry looked comfortable as the U’s secured an impressive 4-1 win over Cheltenham Town. He assisted Samson Tovide and looked ever comfortable at the end of his first full season of regular games in the first team.
CM – Ben Thompson – Bromley
The box-to-box midfielder has been ever-present in Andy Woodman’s title-winning side, proving to be a vital cog in this exciting team. In Saturday’s 3-1 win at home to Walsall, Thompson scored his eighth league goal of the season as Bromley lifted the League Two title for the first time in their history.
CM – Armando Dobra – Chesterfield
The Albanian showed his class as the Spireites beat Swindon Town 2-1 away from home. It has been a below-par season for the 25-year-old with only nine goal contributions, but he showed just why he is highly thought of by assisting twice and providing a constant attacking threat.
RM – Mitchell Pinnock – Bromley
Eyes were opened when Pinnock arrived at Hayes Lane over the summer on a free transfer after leaving Northampton Town and dropping a division. It’s clear that the move paid off as Pinnock has shone in the side, with Saturday’s 3-1 win over Walsall seeing him score and assist to take his goal contributions this season to 12.
CAM – Kane Taylor – Oldham Athletic
The Aston Villa loanee scored and assisted in their 3-0 win over Accrington Stanley. Since his arrival, Taylor has contributed three goal involvements in 16 games, showing why Villa have high hopes for the 21-year-old.
LM – Harry Anderson – Colchester United
The former Lincoln City man has had the best goal return of his career under Danny Cowley. On Saturday’s demolition of Cheltenham Town, Anderson was the standout as he scored and was a constant attacking threat on the left-hand side.
ST – Callum Stead – Barnet
Yet another inclusion for Stead, who has been ever dependable in the final part of the season. Fresh off his five-goal outing last weekend, Stead scored and assisted in another impressive solo display as Barnet beat Harrogate Town 2-1 to relegate their opponents.
