Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter has addressed ongoing speculation regarding the potential departures of some of their key assets.

Luke Garrard’s side took the National League by storm last season, reaching the play-off final in what was their first season back after their promotion during the previous campaign.

Ultimately, the club fell short at the final hurdle – being beaten by eventual winners Rochdale, ensuring their wait for an EFL debut continues.

Boreham Wood chairman addresses transfer speculation

Unsurprisingly, Boreham Wood’s key assets from the previous season are likely to have attracted interest – casting doubt regarding their destinations for the next campaign.

Players such as Zak Brunt, Abdul Abdulmalik and Matt Rush were integral to their play-off run last season, as well as helping to secure the National League Cup after beating West Ham United’s U21s in the final.

Therefore, it is increasingly likely that those key players could depart this summer, but the chances of those happening has now been addressed.

Speaking to the club’s media team in a recent interview (via YouTube), chairman Danny Hunter revealed their stance regarding possible exits.

Boreham Wood have already confirmed defender James Clarke has signed a new contract with the club, following his heroics after arriving from Solihull Moors.

However, it doesn’t appear as though he will be the only key asset staying put this summer.

Hunter told the club’s YouTube channel

“Obviously sometimes it’s not about who you bring in, but it’s often (if you’re wise) who you keep as well.

”We’ve kept the core of last year – contrary to what everyone thought. Some of the better known boys, the boys who people think might have been leaving – won’t be leaving, I told you (fans) that last season.”

He went on to add…

”The truth of the matter is that they are all staying. It doesn’t need to be difficult, I get the same crap that everyone else does, agents do what they do – it’s life at this level, the difference is I’m not selling, I don’t need to sell and I’m running out of years.

”We want to have a challenge, we feel we’re a play-off outfit and we want to see if we can go one better than last year.”

How key could this be for their promotion hopes?

With Rochdale and York City now out of the division, there is an argument that the race for promotion is an open battle this season – with several sides likely to be involved.

This summer has already seen Carlisle United & Southend United change managers, whilst the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Hartlepool United and Scunthorpe United in particular have been working hard with their recruitment.

Elsewhere, sides such as Solihull Moors, Boston United and Yeovil Town have been working hard to retain key assets in order to strengthen their own respective promotion pushes.

Therefore, with Boreham Wood reiterating that none of their key players will be leaving this summer, they too put themselves firmly in the promotion-window once again.

The 2025/26 season already proved how strong and dangerous Boreham Wood can be, so by retaining key players and improving the quality elsewhere, they are likely to be favourites of many to seal promotion this season.
