Multiple League One sides have lodged offers to sign Kieran Ngwenya, who has been a long-standing target for Plymouth Argyle.
A report at the start of the month suggested that The Pilgrims were keen on signing the 23-year-old defender, who has also been linked with Leyton Orient and Blackpool, among others.
Offers Submitted
Ngwenya is currently a free agent, having left Dunfermline Athletic at the start of the month, having rejected offers from the Pars, who were keen to keep the Trinidad and Tobago international in Scotland.
Now, according to Sky Sports’ News Anthony Joseph, ‘a number’ of League One clubs have now tabled offers to the centre-back, who has also been of interest to Motherwell.
Ngwenya arrived at East End Park in 2024 on a free transfer having failed to break through at Aberdeen, and established himself as a key player, playing 34 times in his debut season.
Under Neil Lennon, the Pars stepped up to become challengers for promotion to the Scottish Championship, ultimately finishing in fourth place and were eliminated from the playoffs by Partick Thistle.
They also had a dream run in the Scottish Cup, earning a ticket to the final, with Ngwenya playing the full match in a 3-1 loss to Lennon’s former side in Celtic.
Will Argyle Continue Interest?
Given their early-window business on top of Tom Cleverley’s admission that a goalkeeper was his number one priority in terms of incomings this summer, then it would not be surprising if Plymouth Argyle have cooled their interest in Kieran Ngwenya.
The Home Park club have already sealed the services of Wes Harding from Millwall and Alex Hartridge from Devon rivals Exeter City, on top of striking a new deal with club captain Joe Edwards.
Furthermore, they are keen on signing former loanee Alex Mitchell, who is also a target for Wycombe Wanderers this window.
Whether Argyle have progressed their interest in Ngwenya remains to be seen, but given their recruitment, the 23-year-old may instead opt to head somewhere else for a greater guarantee of game time.
The defender’s best choice may perhaps be another suitor in Burton Albion, who he would be a great fit for given Gary Bowyer’s preference for aerial prowess, having secured Bradford City‘s Curtis Tilt for an undisclosed fee.
