Hartlepool United manager Pete Wild is set to seal his first transfer as manager of the National League side.

Wild took control of the National League side last week, following Lee Clark’s resignation, though was unable to start with a win after a narrow defeat against Tamworth.

The Pools currently find themselves 22nd in the National League, having lost nine of their opening 12 games and have scored just eight goals, with Gateshead being the only side to score fewer.

However, the first signing of the Wild era is coming, with a transfer reunion edging ever closer ahead of Saturday’s trip to Forest Green Rovers.

Hartlepool strike deal for National League midfielder

When managers enter new roles, it isn’t a surprise to see some of their former players follow them to their new club – and Pete Wild is no different.

During his stint with FC Halifax Town, Wild worked closely with several players including midfielder Jack Earing – who has since fell out of favour at Barrow.

It now appears as though the duo are set to reunite once again with the Pools, according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 27-year-old joined Barrow last summer from Walsall and made 32 appearances across all competitions, whilst contributing to four goals as they were relegated back to the National League.

However, Earing is yet to make an appearance for Adam Murray’s side so far this season, though has been an unused substitute on two different occasions.

Due to him being under contract, Earing is set to join Hartlepool on loan, though there has been no mention as to whether it’s a short or long-term loan deal.

Is this a good signing?

Hartlepool have struggled so far this season, averaging the 12th most possession in the league and rank 20th for accurate passes per 90 minutes.

Therefore, it should come as little surprise that Wild and his team have already began to focus their efforts in strengthening Hartlepool’s midfield department in order to transfer the fortunes of their current results.

Earing has made over 100 EFL appearances throughout his career so far, but limited minutes and injuries have prevented him from holding down regular starting spots.

He adds strong competition for the likes of Jamie Miley, Jack Hunter and Cole Deeming, with Wild likely wanting someone to control games and help make his side more creative in the middle of the park – heading towards the final third.
