Gateshead have experienced a quiet summer transfer window thus far, though they could be about to say goodbye to another player.
The Heed have already experienced a challenging summer thus far, making just one new addition whilst losing key players like Kenton Richardson, Brad Nicholson, Louis Storey and Jacob Butterfield.
Similarly, the National League side have also been placed under a registration embargo by FIFA for the second time in 13 months – though the club say they are in talks with the FA to remove it.
Gateshead forward tipped for exit
Gateshead narrowly avoided relegation to the National League North last season, though another one of their cavalry has been linked with a possible exit.
After Rob returned to the club, the Heed made a plethora of new signings to try and keep themselves up – including forward Levi Amantchi.
However, according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke, Amantchi could be set to leave the club this summer, with league rivals Kidderminster Harriers amongst the list of clubs interested in his services.
The 25-year-old spent the first half of last season with Rochdale, with whom he signed for on loan from Walsall – but despite scoring on his home debut, Amantchi struggled to impress.
He was recalled by the Saddlers and sold to Gateshead, where he played a role in keeping the club in the National League, assisting a goal against Altrincham but was largely used as a substitute option.
Amantchi is under contract with Gateshead for the 2026/27 season, meaning Kidderminster (if they sign him) would likely need to pay a fee unless the two parties agree a free transfer.
Is this a good addition for Kidderminster?
Kidderminster have already missed out on the opportunity to re-sign loan star Kieren Donnelly, after he completed a permanent transfer to Tamworth for an undisclosed fee.
They have recruited additional forwards in Torquay United’s Callum Dolan and Braintree Town’s Lewis Walker – but one thing they are lacking is a physical striker who can dominate defenders and hold the ball up.
Similarly, the current side lacks experienced EFL/National League players at present – whilst Amantchi has had several season’s in the division with the likes of Bromley, Rochdale and Maidstone United.
Last season saw Brackley Town follow a similar recruitment strategy and their lack of experience ultimately played a part in their relegation, which is a lesson that Kidderminster should be looking to learn from.
The 25-year-old has struggled for goals in the fifth tier, but could provide Paul Wotton’s side with a unique physical presence up top, someone to hold the ball up and bring some of their more creative players into play.
