Plymouth Argyle midfielder Brendan Wiredu is set to move to ambitious League Two outfit Salford City, according to various reports.
The 26-year-old joined the Pilgrims last summer from Fleetwood Town in a deal worth to be £300,000. He made 42 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring four times.
Capable of playing in an array of positions across the defence and midfield, Wiredu was an unused substitute in Plymouth’s first game of the campaign, a 2-0 win over Exeter City in the Carabao Cup. He was then introduced as a late substitute in last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Stockport County.
Wiredu Exit Imminent
New first emerged this afternoon of Wiredu’s impending exit when journalist Pete O’Rourke announced that a deal had been agreed with Salford. This was then backed up by Plymouth Live, who stated that a medical has taken place this afternoon at the Peninsula Stadium.
Head coach Tom Cleverley was asked about the situation ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wycombe Wanderers, saying:
“Brendan is our player. I have got nothing to announce today. He potentially could be one of those people that could move on.
“Last year I think he was fifth or sixth in the minutes list. This year with Harvey (White) coming into the football club, we have had some honest conversations and he may not play as much as his ambitions match up with.
“We will see on Brendan. Right now, he’s our player. That could change.”
Another Coup For Salford?
Salford have been heavily tipped to win League Two this season. They have made an array of eye-catching signings throughout the summer, namely the likes of Macaulay Langstaff, Luke Molyneux, Will Aimson and Joe Powell.
Despite they, the Ammies have suffered a dreadful start to the campaign. They first exited the Carabao Cup on penalties against division rivals Shrewsbury Town before a 3-1 reverse at Barnet in the opening league fixture last weekend.
Ok, this is getting crazy now. If Salford don’t break the 100 point barrier in League Two, it’s a failure of a season.#WeAreSalford #pafc https://t.co/deShg274x8

Wiredu would represent an excellent piece of business from the Class of 92-backed club. He is a player with vast experience in League Two, having spent two years with Colchester United between 2020 and 2022. He also excelled for Fleetwood in his final season before he was picked up by Plymouth.
Salford will hopw to pick up their first win of the season on Saturday and a first for new manager Peter Cklamovski when they entertain Chesterfield.
