Huddersfield Town could lose young star Cameron Ashia, with several sides, including Brighton & Hove Albion, lodging enquiries with the League One club.

The 21-year-old emerged as a key squad option for the Terriers last season, playing 31 times across all competitions, providing six goals and three assists in the process.

European Race Begins

Incoming managers Martin Drury and Jon Stead have already taken major steps to address their options in wide areas, most notably with the recruitment of Dutch winger Derensili Sanches Fernandes, who had a stellar League One debut with a brace against AFC Wimbledon.

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, some sides have taken interest in Ashia, who has been sidelined since March due to a groin injury picked up in the aftermath of their loss against Plymouth Argyle.

It is believed that three sides from across Europe have already handed Town enquiries over the winger in the form of Brighton & Hove Albion, Bundesliga side Hamburg, as well as Belgian giants Anderlecht.

The former Derby County youth star has just one year left on his contract in West Yorkshire, having had a 12-month extension in his contract triggered by the club upon the release of their end-of-season retained list in May.

Town Faced With Crossroads

With many Huddersfield Town fans viewing Cameron Ashia as a star in the making after a promising breakthrough season at the club, a difficult decision may have to be made in the coming weeks when it comes to his future.

Having just one year left on his deal, a key decision now has to be made as to whether they think now is the time to cash in on him while they can still get a fee, or gamble and hope they can strike new terms with him before he leaves on a free.

It may come down to a question of formations, with Bali Mumba excelling in a wing-back role, with Martin Drury and Jon Stead preferring to use a back five, meaning an out-and-out winger may not have much of an impact over the season.

In games where Huddersfield want to go on the front foot more, then perhaps it would be wise to keep him, but with several sides now pursuing a deal, it could be the time to move on and pick up a handsome fee before it is too late.
