Incoming Salford City manager Peter Cklamovski has set out his stall after being appointed to try to get the club into League One.
The Ammies pulled the plug on Karl Robinson’s tenure in the aftermath of their League Two playoff final loss to Notts County despite the 45-year-old getting the club the closest it has ever been to reaching the third tier.
Cklamovski Issues Mentality Plan
Now, the Moor Lane side have moved on to appointing a new head coach just two weeks after that decision, with Peter Cklamovski recruited from his position as head coach of the Malaysian national team to come to Greater Manchester.
Previously an assistant under Ange Postecoglu during his tenure in charge of Australia, in which they secured the Asian Cup for the first time ever, the 47-year-old began on his own path with the Socceroos’ under-17 squad before making a switch over to Japanese club football.
Heading into his first-ever role in Europe, Cklamovski was hopeful when speaking to club media that he would be the one to finally push Salford to their first-ever League One campaign.
“I’m here with a great opportunity to do something special, and it’s a great challenge. The owners have got lofty ambitions, the Club’s got big aspirations to achieve something special and that resonates with me.
“We want to build a mentality around the game where we fight for everything with passion, commitment, discipline, but get on the ball, be brave, be committed, and have that forward intent to score goals.
“We want to be aggressive, attacking, and we want to get our fans off their seats, get them jumping. That style is built off a daily process on the training pitch and a really clear training methodology that the players will enjoy, but work hard for and have that mindset to get better every day.”
Massive Task To Come
As Karl Robinson and Neil Wood before him saw, the ownership group of Salford City are expectant of promotion, and failure to do so within a reasonable time will see them make the call to sack their manager.
Perhaps one of the tougher roles within the EFL, the Ammies management role comes with a lot of pressure and it is perhaps surprising that they have taken a risk on an unknown quantity within England in Peter Cklamovski.
However, he does have a good resume as he heads to Greater Manchester, having been a pivotal part of Ange Postecoglu’s success with Australia and later the Yokohama F. Marinos, winning the J.League in 2019.
While he has failed to replicate those successes when out on his own, now is a perfect time for him to try and change that, with the club likely to back him in the market over the next months.
Arguably, there is not much to do on the recruitment front with the squad likely good enough to challenge for an automatic place once again, but finding the additional depth to replace their outgoings will be key to their fortunes over the next 12 months.
