Stevenage have reached a deadline-day agreement with Championship side Millwall, for the transfer of one of their first-team stars.
The League One side have experienced a challenging start to the campaign, beating Wycombe Wanderers in the first round of the EFL Cup, but have since failed to win each of their last four matches across all competitions.
Alex Revell’s side were forced to rely on a late strike from Olly Sanderson to rescue a point against Doncaster Rovers at the weekend and haven’t kept a clean sheet since the final day of the 2025/26 campaign.
Stevenage agree to sell star
It appears as though the club will be busy in the final hours of the transfer window, after agreeing to sell on of their key players.
On Monday, Stevenage bid farewell to Northern Ireland international Jamie Reid, who signed for Reading for an undisclosed fee – but now a second player appear set to depart.
The player in question is shot-stopper Filip Marschall, who was ever-present for the club last season after arriving from Crewe Alexandra.
However, as reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Stevenage have reached an agreement to sell Marschall to Millwall in the final hours of the transfer window.
The 23-year-old made 45 appearances across all competitions for Revell’s side last season, keeping 19 clean sheets as the club reached the League One play-off places, but fell at the semi-final stage to Stockport County.
This season, Marschall has already played in all five of their matches but hasn’t managed to keep a clean sheet as of yet.
He is set to go a medical on Tuesday morning, ahead of his permanent move to the Championship side.
How big is this exit?
With Marschall having been Stevenage’s number one over the last year and a bit, his exit is going to come as a blow to a side aiming to replicate last season’s success.
There is yet to be confirmation regarding the figure involved that Stevenage have accepted, though it is highly likely that the club will be forced into signing a replacement before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
Stevenage currently have both Daniel Barden and Max Woodford available for their clash against Peterborough United, but neither goalkeeper is particularly experienced – having played just 25 first-team matches between them.
Similarly, due to the registration deadline – unless the club have signed a replacement that’s yet to be revealed to the public, the club will be forced to rely on one of those goalkeepers for their clash on Tuesday – whilst the recruitment team continue working on a first-choice replacement.
Millwall meanwhile are continuing their fight to reach the Premier League, coming increasingly closer in each of the last few seasons – winning all four of their opening matches before being heavily beaten by Southampton at the weekend.
Marschall would provide immediate competition for Max Crocombe and Lukas Jensen moving into the remainder of the season.
