Manchester United are set to launch a late move to sign a sought-after Leicester City star, before the transfer window closes.
Since the Foxes suffered relegation down to League One last season, the club have been forced to rely on several of their young talents already this campaign.
This is despite the club losing Jeremy Monga to Manchester City earlier this summer, the likes of Christian McFarlane, Sammy Braybrooke and Jayden Joseph have all stepped up thus far.
However, there is another Academy star that’s been involved this season that could be about to depart on a permanent deal before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
Manchester United eye late move for Leicester star
The player in question for the Foxes is 18-year-old midfielder Louis Page, who has been heavily involved for Leicester since the turn of the year and that has continued into the current season.
Page has featured four times for the Foxes across all competitions, starting in two of them and has held his own despite the lack of regular first-team minutes in his career so far.
However, according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke, Manchester United have maintained their interest in the midfielder and have launched a final attempt to sign him.
Manchester United are set to offer Leicester a fee worth more than their rivals paid for Jeremy Monga (£10 million), whilst also including a substantial sell-on clause as well as including a free loan back to the Foxes for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign.
Whether Leicester would consider selling the 18-year-old remains to be seen, although they have continued to be busy on deadline day and could be tempted by the fee.
Page is currently under contract at the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2029 – meaning they aren’t necessarily in a rush to sell the 18-year-old.
What should Leicester do?
The fee would likely continue to help them cover losses caused by relegation and allow them to strengthen further in January to get themselves back to the Championship.
With a bid like this, the risk Leicester have is that the same bid may not be on the table in six months time, let alone next summer. Injuries, poor form or a drop in minutes would likely see Page’s price decrease.
Leicester’s relegation is likely to have an affect on their decision, regarding how key they feel the fee would be to their hopes of building a sustainable future off the pitch as well as ensuring they are well equipped on it.
The deal from Manchester United involved Leicester gaining Page back on loan, which could be a key factor in them wanting to agree terms with the Premier League side – knowing they’d get a good fee, protection long-term and keep the player for another 12 months.
