Leicester City manager Russell Martin has stated that Harry Souttar remains committed to the club amid fresh reports linking the defender with a move to Wrexham.

The 27-year-old joined the Foxes in 2023 from Stoke City for a fee of £15 million. Despite that, he struggled for first team outings before joining Sheffield United on loan in 2024.

It was at Bramall Lane where he suffered and Achilles rupture which ruled him out of action for 15 months. During this time, Leicester were relegated from the Premier League and upon his return in April, they were staring down the barrel of a drop to League One.

This was confirmed with a 2-2 draw against Hull City, shortly before Souttar’s first start of the campaign. the Australian international showed his qualities by scoring in a 1-1 draw against Millwall.

Souttar Transfer Links Refusing To Disperse

Souttar has captained the side in each of Leicester’s two league games so far this season. However, it’s been a poor start to life in England’s third tier after a 1-1 draw with Notts County and a shock 2-1 home defeat against Burton Albion.

The centre-back has been on the radar of former club Sheffield United in recent weeks. The Blades have reportedly pulled the plug on their interest though, with the 2016 Premier League champions holding out for £10 million.

This doesn’t have appeared to deterred Wrexham though, with Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph claiming the Red Dragons have entered into initial talks over a potential transfer.

The Hollywood-backed club are keen to further strengthen their squad ahead of the end of the transfer window on Tuesday night. This became even more evident last night when they stretched their winless start to the season to three games following a 2-1 defeat against Birmingham City.

Martin Hails ‘Brilliant’ Souttar

Leicester will be looking for their first league win when they battle MK Dons at lunchtime. Souttar is expected to feature, with Martin full of praise for the World Cup star prior to the game. Speaking to Leicestershire Live, he said:

“He’s got a fantastic attitude and wants to play. We’ve had no official bid.

“So again, it’s all this talk and stuff like that, which can be really distracting. But Harry’s been brilliant and he’s not been in once to say, ‘I want to leave’, and all that.

“He’s really relaxed about things and I think he’s going to improve along with the team. He’s not been back in for very long. He’s doing something very different for him and he’ll continue to improve and grow with us.”

Should Souttar depart for an eight-figure sum in the coming days, he would be the fourth player to command a big money fee this summer following the sales of Abdul Fatawa, Bilal El Khannouss and Jeremy Monga.
