Championship new boys Birmingham City have confirmed the temporary departure of winger Emil Hansson, who has signed for ambitious League One side Blackpool.
The League One outfit have been busy in the transfer window thus far, pulling off several big deals including Crystal Palace‘s Danny Imray, Stockport’s Fraser Horsfall and the permanent return of loan star Niall Ennis from Stoke City.
However, it appears as though their business is far from finished for the summer, as a latest arrival has saw an increased quality level to their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Birmingham winger completes temporary exit
As confirmed via a statement on the club’s website, Blackpool have completed the loan capture of Birmingham City winger Emil Hansson until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
The Blues have been busy themselves following promotion back to the Championship and have recruited several attackers including Bright Osayi-Samuel and Demarai Gray on permanent deals.
This has resulted in players such as Hansson slipping down the ranks at St. Andrews, further implying the reasoning behind the exit.
How did he fare last season?
After arriving from Dutch side Heracles Almelo last summer, Hansson immediately impressed during his debut against Reading and in matches to follow.
However, an injury in October saw him miss two months of action and by the time he returned, he’d fallen out of favour. This was met with another run from December to February where he failed to feature for the Blues and missed another month towards the end of the campaign.
March saw Hansson’s best run for the club, scoring one and assisting another in their six matches.
Across the season itself, Hansson made 24 appearances across all competitions for Birmingham, contributing to four goals.
Is this a good signing for Blackpool?
Hansson’s injury run is a cause for concern for the League One side, but in some of his performances since arriving in England he has proven to be a useful and reliable attacking option.
Blackpool have strengthened a lot in the final third this summer and Hansson is yet another example of their increased efforts to try and return to the Championship.
If he can stay fit and get himself firing once again under Steve Bruce, this could prove to be a tidy addition.
