After negotiations taking place over recent weeks, York City’s Malachi Fagan-Walcott now looks set to leave the club with a deal now agreed between the two sides. The central defender was vital for Stuart Maynard’s side at both ends of the field, as they stunningly won the National League title with a 108-point total.
According to reports from Pete O’Rourke via X, a deal has now been agreed between the North Yorkshire club and Scottish giants Hearts, after a £750,000 bid was reported in recent weeks.
Now, it looks like the 24-year-old will be moving north of the border.
Malachi Fagan-Walcott Set For York City Exit
The central defender first joined the club on loan from Cardiff City in September 2024. And he was an immediate mainstay in the York City starting eleven, making his move permanent the following January.
Since then, he has been one of the best defenders the LNER Stadium has ever seen. Adept at either end of the field, he contributed an impressive eight goals and four assists from central defence, spearheading City’s title claim.
York City had already begun their summer additions, sealing Mark Shelton’s signature from Barnet earlier in the window. But now, they will have a monstrous task on their hands in replacing Fagan-Walcott with his move to Hearts now imminent.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man has every desired attribute in a central defender – young, a capable ball-player, and imposing in both boxes. Now, York will need to reinvest his fee well.
Fagan-Walcott Set For Hearts

The central defender is set to undergo his medical with the club, according to the reports, and he carries the perfect profile of a Hearts signing.
