AFC Wimbledon are interested in making another move for James Tilley, who is expected to leave Wycombe Wanderers this summer.
The 27-year-old moved to Adams Park last summer on a free transfer from the Dons, who secured promotion to League One through the play-offs.
However, the former Crawley Town man has failed to impress since his move to Buckinghamshire, and ultimately ended up back at Plough Lane on a half-season loan, playing 14 times to help Johnnie Jackson’s men avoid relegation.
Dons Weigh Up Deal
Michael Duff’s side have already begun their decision-making heading into his first summer in charge, and according to the Bucks Free Press, Tilley is one of several players who will be allowed to leave the club.
That has led AFC Wimbledon to consider bringing Tilley back to South London once more, either permanently or on loan once again, after what has been a solid spell on loan only slightly marred by injury.
Playing opposite his replacement in Steve Seddon at right-wing-back, the 27-year-old has contributed two goals and an additional two assists in 13 appearances, taking his total returns up to 33 across both spells at the club.
Other Chairboys Exits Expected
Another name also on course to leave Wycombe is Shamal George, who is currently out on loan with Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren.
The former Livingston man has yet to make a league appearance since arriving at the Chairboys back in 2024, having made sparse appearances in both the EFL Trophy and FA Cup prior to his return north to the Paisley side.
The 28-year-old has found immense success since returning north of the border, helping the Buddies to a shock Scottish League Cup triumph over Celtic in the final and have also set their sights on a domestic double with a FA Cup semi-final on the horizon.
Clearout Begins With Sensible Choices
Wycombe Wanderers have fallen well far below their highs of last season which could have seen them promoted automatically into the Championship prior to Matt Bloomfield’s exit mid-season.
Michael Duff now has a summer ahead of him to reshape the side to his preferences, and slimming down the squad is a good start to that so letting those fringe players leave is to be expected.
Shamal George has failed to overcome many of his competitors to play between the sticks and with Mikki van Sas and Will Norris at the club, it is unlikely for the 28-year-old to advance in the rankings despite his success at St. Mirren.
For James Tilley, while his free transfer move over the summer was some sensible business given his contribution to put AFC Wimbledon back into League One, ultimately, he has failed to establish himself at the club.
Wimbledon have been enamoured with their promotion hero, earning him a move back to Plough Lane just six months later, and he would be a sensible addition to their squad next season in order to keep their footing and try and improve their finishing position.
