Peterborough United have revisited their interest in Barnet‘s Ryan Glover as the club begin their rebuild for next season.
A poor season for Posh, which saw long-time boss Darren Ferguson sacked and eventually replaced by former Notts County head Luke Williams, has prompted the club to reassess their current crop of players.
Peterborough’s retained list has seen eight of their contracted players listed for transfer, with a further three released by the club in addition to the departures of Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Peter Kioso following their loan spells.
Winger Focus Continues
One key area for recruitment over the summer will be in their wide forward areas, with Abraham Odoh, Cian Hayes and Declan Frith all put up for sale, which will leave the club short in numbers when their exits are confirmed.
Interest in other wingers have already been revealed after Posh showed interest in signing Crewe Alexandra‘s Tommi O’Reilly as he returns to parent club Aston Villa, but face competition from Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town for the 22-year-old.
Now, according to the Peterborough Telegraph, United have returned to one of their January targets in Barnet’s Ryan Glover.
The 25-year-old was on Posh’s shortlist over the winter, but the Cambridgeshire club instead opted against making any incoming moves for players, barring the permanent switch of Jacob Mendy from Wrexham.
Glover has been an ever-present for the Bees in their first season back in the EFL, with four goals and seven assists to his name in League Two, including five assists in his last six games.
Peterborough may face competition for the former Aldershot Town man, with Barnsley and Wigan Athletic also reportedly having prior interest in the versatile winger.
Adaptability Key Amid Formation Uncertainties
Ryan Glover has been a long-term target for Peterborough United and could be a crucial player regardless of which path Luke Williams opts to take with his lineup next season.
Posh have been using a 4-2-3-1 formation for the majority of their games since the former Swansea City man arrived at the club, but as seen with his success at Notts County, the 44-year-old may want to revert to using wing-backs and having a more centralised attack.
Their interest in both Tommi O’Reilly and Ryan Glover shows that United want to be versatile in case they opt for either, with the pair capable of playing through the middle or in wide areas.
While the former is unlikely to arrive at London Road with a seven-figure price tag attached, Glover is definitely a more obtainable move considering the level of competition they will face for him.
Barnsley and Wigan have both faced similar struggles this season, but arguably Posh have the more brighter outlook going forward and that may be the winning factor in securing their target.
