Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth are set to compete for the permanent signing of an Aston Villa player who has impressed on loan.
With just one game left in the EFL, teams are already starting to plan for next season.
One player who is set to be of interest to teams across the EFL is Crewe Alexandra loanee Tommi O’Reilly.
The winger has caught the eye since joining Crewe on loan from Aston Villa last summer.
Huddersfield Town, Oxford United, and Portsmouth Interested in Tommi O’Reilly
The Daily Mail has reported that O’Reilly is attracting interest from Huddersfield Town, Oxford United, and Portsmouth after his displays this campaign.
Crucially, though, they have suggested that Aston Villa could be open to selling the winger.
Any club wishing to purchase O’Reilly will have to meet the £1million valuation set by the Premier League club.
Impressing at Crewe
After several loans away from Villa Park, O’Reilly appears to have found his form while on loan at Crewe in League Two.
In 45 League Two games, he has received an average Sofascore rating of 6.8, which is the eight highest in the club.
Impressively, the 22-year-old has 18 goal contributions, seven goals and 11 assists. The latter is the highest in the club by some way. He is currently six clear of Reece Hutchinson and Josh March.
It is creatively that he has really shone. Alongside his 11 assists, he has created 16 big chances and is averaging 1.4 key passes per game.
O’Reilly has done well in front of goal as well. As well as seven goals, he’s averaging 1.8 shots per game and 0.5 shots on target per game, while only missing two big chances in the league.
What Next for O’Reilly? — Opinion
A step-up to the Championship might be a step too far at the moment.
Given how he has played in League Two, making a move to a top-half League One club might be the best next step for him.
Oxford United coming down from the second tier is an attractive prospect. But as is Huddersfield Town, who will likely be challenging for promotion again.
