Lincoln City star Jack Moylan has been tipped for a first international call-up with the Republic of Ireland following a string of standout performances.
The 24-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the early stages of the campaign, which kept him out of action until November. He returned to action in the 3-2 loss at Wycombe Wanderers, the last time the Imps tasted defeat in League One.
Since then, the versatile attacker has been a key component of Michael Skubala’s team, scoring the winner against Reading earlier this month to secure Lincoln’s promotion to the Championship. He then followed that up on Saturday with his tenth league goal of the season in a 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient.
Moylan Stock Continues To Rise
Moylan’s performances over the past few months have caught the eye, earning a string of plaudits from both supporters and the media. He is regularly dubbed Lincoln’s ‘magic man’, not least by the head coach himself.
The former Shelbourne man has particularly impressed with a number of stunning goals, the latest of which came courtesy of an excellent turn and volley against Orient at the weekend. It was no surprise last week when the EFL announced he had been nominated for the League One Player of the Season.
Jack Moylan really is a special, special player, isn’t he? If he continues that in the Championship, surely an international call up is on the cards. 🇮🇪#WeAreImps pic.twitter.com/Xv8j7jsTMo

Former International Delivers Call-Up Verdict
Moylan – and Lincoln’s success – has garnered attention in his native Republic of Ireland in recent months and he was reportedly being lined up for a shock call-up for the World Cup qualifier play-off against the Czech Republic. That failed to materialise and the Irish suffered heartbreak when they were knocked out on penalties.
Focus has now turned to the summer and the start of the Nations League later this year, with a string of friendlies scheduled for next month. A training camp has been organised in Spain, where a fixture against Grenada will take place, before recognised outings against Qatar and Canada.
Former Ireland international Keith Treacy believes this represents a perfect opportunity for manager Heimir Hallgrimsson to cast his eye on the player, who will be showcasing his talent in England’s second tier next season. Speaking to the RTÉ Soccer Podcast, the former Preston North End midfielder said:
“I would like Jack Moylan to come in.
“Lincoln have obviously gone straight up. He’s had a brilliant season, ten goals and four assists.
“League of Ireland fans will know him from his time at Shelbourne. And this is not me saying ‘Jack needs to be in the starting XI for Ireland and he’s the one moving forward’.
“But I think there are certain players throughout a season who might not be on the radar but this is the time to pat them on the back and say, ‘We are having a look at you, you are in our plans. Although you might not be the number one, come in, have a look behind the curtain, we want to have a look at you as well’.
“This would be a big pat on the back. He’ll be playing Championship football next season, it’ll be another big step up.”
Lincoln will look to extend their 25-game unbeaten run on Saturday when they travel to play-off hopefuls Stevenage.
