Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has outlined the pre-season plan for one of his young players, who is currently enjoying success on loan at Lincoln City.
Ryan One joined Lincoln City on loan at the end of the January transfer window. The forward had “everybody in League One and League Two chasing him”, Wilder told the Star.
The decision to send him to Lincoln appears to have been a good one. One has experienced competitive League One football and now has a promotion under his belt, after the Imps secured automatic promotion to the Championship.
With Lincoln joining the Blades in the second tier next season, he might get a chance to line up across from a few of his current teammates, and the comments from his boss Wilder, will likely fill him with optimism.
Wilder On Big Pre-Season for Ryan One
Speaking to the Star ahead of his side’s Yorkshire derby with Hull City, Wilder discussed the big future the forward has, while also explaining the decision to send him to Lincoln:
“I‘m not putting too much on Ryan. But he’s got a big future. And his future is with us.
“We’re delighted that he’s here for long term. We felt it was the right thing to do to get him out on loan. It’s been a great experience.
“We knew he would have to fight to get into the team. And he’s had to fight. So, he’s not always been a regular. But he’s played, and he’s been involved. From a physical point of view, playing for three points. From a mentality point of view, playing for three points.”
Wilder went on to explain what the forward needs to do to break into his Sheffield United side:
“A big pre-season awaits him. And his challenge now will be to force his way in. I’ve got no problem about playing him. If he forces his way in.
“Rest, relax and come back. And hopefully he can play a part in what will be a much better campaign.”
One Impressing at Lincoln City
Since joining the Imps, One has played 11 games in League One. He may have only started four of those 11 games, averaging 38 minutes per game, but the forward has scored five times already.
His performances in the league have seen him pick up an average Sofascore rating of 6.9.
One’s best performance for the Imps came against Northampton Town, in Lincoln’s 4-0 victory. The forward scored one of those four goals, hitting the target twice, the woodwork once and earning himself an eight rating from Sofascore.
He caught the eye from the off for Lincoln. The game against Northampton was just his second for his new side; in his first game against Plymouth Argyle, he scored after only coming off the bench in the 84th minute.
Wilder will likely be hoping he can pick up a few more goals between now and the end of the season, ready for what could be a big year for him next campaign.
