MK Dons are on the cusp of signing Will Dennis on a permanent basis following his half-season spell at Leyton Orient.
Richie Wellens’ side loaned in the AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper in the wake of a season-ending injury to Daniel Bachmann, who had only been recruited days earlier from Watford.
Dennis played 15 times for the O’s as part of their battle against relegation in League One, keeping four clean sheets and making 51 saves, ranking as one of the best in the division for his overall save percentage.
Dons Secure Deal
However, it seems after a decade-long association with Bournemouth, the 26-year-old is now poised to leave the Dorset club, with the Daily Record’s Scott Burns reporting that MK Dons are in the final stages of securing a permanent switch.
Paul Warne’s side are set to hand Dennis a three-year deal in Buckinghamshire, providing competition for a first-choice place with Craig MacGillivray, who has played and started in both of the club’s League One matches so far.
The Milton Keynes side are shelling out an undisclosed fee in order to secure Dennis, who has lost further status with the Cherries in the wake of their move to sign Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio on a season-long loan deal.
Dennis has had a series of successive spells away from Dean Court in recent seasons before his Leyton Orient stint, also featuring for Kilmarnock, Slough Town and Wealdstone.
Warne has already admitted that a new goalkeeper was his top priority ahead of Deadline Day next week, with a new addition expected to be the final move for the Dons in their summer window.
Warne Seals Final Move
After a strong window of incomings as MK Dons looked to improve their squad ahead of their League One return, it seems that Will Dennis is now the final piece of their puzzle.
With Paul Warne strengthening everywhere else, adding cover and competition for Craig MacGillivray was a must, and a permanent move for Bournemouth’s now-fourth-choice goalkeeper is not a bad move.
Having a fine spell at Leyton Orient was a clear indicator that he is more than capable at this level, and on top of his season-long stint at Kilmarnock previously, is now ready to be a reliable option when called upon.
Warne now has a big call to make, as while MacGillivray has been an ever-dependable choice that saw the Dons through their League Two promotion, the Derby County man may feel he has run his course, and Dennis’ arrival is to unseat the 33-year-old.
This eighth and final incoming at Stadium:MK is a strong one, and along with their other additions, they have had an extremely encouraging window which will serve as a platform in their hopes of once again reaching the Championship in the near future.
