Louie Barry is set to return to former club Stockport County after a lengthy injury layoff.
The Deck exclusively revealed in January that Aston Villa were open to loaning the midfielder back into League One, after failed spells at Hull City and Sheffield United.
Barry Set For Reunion
According to The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell, Stockport County are set to re-sign Louie Barry on loan as he continues his recovery from a knee injury he suffered while at Bramall Lane.
A move back to Edgeley Park would mark his first senior action since playing against Preston North End back in October, and had since been spotted using crutches.
While he will still be out of action for another month, Aston Villa have lined up a third loan spell at County, where he has previously excelled with 25 goals in 46 appearances in both League One and League Two, where he helped the club win the fourth division title.
The Hatters have had to knock back interest for their current crop of stars in attacking midfield, having rejected a £750,000 bid from promotion rivals Luton Town for Jack Diamond.
Match Made In Heaven?
Louie Barry has been such an explosive talent for Stockport County over the past few years so it is a brilliant move for Dave Challinor to get him back to Edgeley Park.
While it has been a tough year or so for the former Salford City man, he will head back to Greater Manchester and return to an environment in which he has flourished with players with whom he already has a strong rapport.
There is still a long road to recovery for the 22-year-old as he battles a knee injury, but in time he will certainly challenge existing options in the squad like Malik Mothersille and Jack Diamond for a place supporting Kyle Wootton in the starting eleven.
Going forward, this is a great move for Aston Villa to get one of their stars of the future back playing regularly, but it remains to be seen whether his future lies at Villa Park or elsewhere beyond this campaign.
