Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has taken to social media to give an update on the Terriers’ search for a new manager.
Liam Manning left earlier this month after taking compassionate leave in March, and it has been mutually agreed that he wouldn’t return to West Yorkshire.
That leaves Huddersfield looking for a new head coach, as preparations are underway for another season of League One football.
How Is Huddersfield’s Search Going?
When the fixtures were released last June, the Terriers’ clash at AFC Wimbledon on the final day would have been expected to be a day of celebration. Instead, a 4-0 victory over the Dons gave Town fans nothing more than a short burst of happiness after another season of underachieving on the pitch.
Huddersfield were one of the pre-season favourites to win promotion to the Championship, and seemed to have built a squad capable of doing so. Even their January recruitment looked strong, certainly enough to finish in the play-off places. Instead, after Lee Grant was sacked midway through the winter window, Manning was quickly appointed as his replacement. Even after he stepped away at the end of March for personal reasons, the Terriers remained only three points adrift of the top six.
However, a dismal April, where they won just once at relegation-threatened Leyton Orient thanks to a 106th-minute winner, ended hopes of escaping the third tier. Now, owner Kevin Nagle has provided a brief update to supporters on X. A week has passed since Manning left, and Nagle responded to a supporter who reminded him of that timeframe by asking, “Don’t you want a thorough process?” He then added the following: “Close. Fluid situation though.”
What Are The Betting Markets Looking Like?
Among the leading candidates is former West Bromwich Albion gaffer Tony Mowbray. He has experience in getting a side out of the third tier with Blackburn Rovers, but has been out of the game for over a year after a disappointing end to his time in the West Midlands. However, the 62-year-old is looking for a route back into the game, and the Terriers could provide just that.
Richie Wellens has also been tipped by the bookies for the vacant position at the Accu Stadium. That may be a surprise, given his most recent campaign at Leyton Orient, where they went from beaten play-off finalists last year to barely surviving relegation this term. It is a move that perhaps wouldn’t be popular with Huddersfield supporters, after their struggles last term. Darren Ferguson would likely instigate the same reaction, despite his previous success at Peterborough United.
Whoever the Terriers appoint, it is vitally important they do so quickly to best prepare for the upcoming League One season.

Please keep faith with the managerial pairing of Martin & Jon they found a way of getting the players to enjoy matchday and work as a team. Martin has some managerial experience while Jon knows what the Terrier fans want to see and both are local lads.
We have seen experienced managers with previous succes come and go, they never clicked with the fans and if Kevin backs these two and announces it now they can recruit the players needed to not only take the lead in games but then manage the game through to the final whistle.
Also please stop bringing in loan players with no loyalty to the club or team who just want to attract attention and move on rather than strengthen the team and get promoted with the club, they have no loyalty to the badge or the fans.
