Bradford City are interested in signing unattached midfielder Jordan Davies to their ranks as they look to bolster their options.
The Bantams have been left on the lookout for new options to play in the middle of the pitch following the sales of both Jenson Metcalfe and Max Power this summer, with the former heading to Millwall, while the latter made a return to former club Wigan Athletic.
Davies Impression Lasts
Now, according to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Bradford are keen on recruiting the former Wrexham midfielder after a three-game trial during their pre-season preparations.
Davies has played in the middle of the park alongside summer recruit Henry Cartwright, with that duo playing through the second half of their most recent friendly against local rivals FC Halifax Town.
It is believed that other sides are keen on signing the 27-year-old, who spent last season at Fleetwood Town, where he was blighted by injuries that limited him to just 18 appearances.
Having also served a loan spell with Grimsby Town in League Two, Davies is now vying for his first-ever stint in League One with the Yorkshire outfit.
City have taken on multiple trialists this summer, with reports also stating that former Everton man Reece Welch has also been training with the Bantams, having been linked to Sheffield Wednesday in recent weeks.
Should City Take Risk?
Bradford City are desperately short of midfield options after the breakup of last season’s midfield duo of Jenson Metcalfe and Max Power, which is likely to explain Graham Alexander’s willingness to take on midfield trialists.
Henry Cartwright has already come through the door in the Bantams’ aim to replicate the success of Metcalfe by poaching a youngster, this time from Leicester City, but his deal can not be the end of their activity.
Jordan Davies offers an intriguing prospect for Bradford, and while he has been a reliable option in pre-season, whether he can replicate that joy across a regular season remains to be seen.
Having never played in League One in his career before, a jump up would be a surprise considering his recent struggles at Fleetwood Town and Grimsby Town.
But as a depth option, Davies could be a dependable choice when called upon as City look to replicate their unexpected success and try and challenge for another promotion again.
