Millwall are reportedly interested in making a swoop for Peterborough United‘s Kyrell Lisbie after his first-ever EFL campaign.
The 22-year-old scored 14 times for a Posh side that struggled for much of the season, making an immediate impact at London Road following his signing from National League outfit Braintree Town.
Lions Eye Potential Azeez Replacement
According to Football League World, Millwall are now interested in striking a deal to sign Kyrell Lisbie as Alex Neil’s side look to rebuild ahead of a new push to try and break into the Premier League for the first time.
They have already made some swoops for League One‘s best top talents, having poached Jenson Metcalfe from Bradford City to open their summer business, who has since been joined by striker Tairyk Arconte and defensive midfielder Mathis Servais for a reported £3 million fee.
Some players have also been cleared out, with Macaulay Langstaff sold to League Two side Salford City, with it being reported that they have recouped most of the money they paid to sign him from Notts County.
Lisbie could arrive at the Den as a potential successor to Femi Azeez, who has been of interest to top flight times in the build-up to the summer window after Graeme Bailey reported in March that Crystal Palace were leading the chase to recruit the Nigerian international.
His versatility on both wings also marks him as a replacement to Thierno Ballo, who will not be returning to Bermondsey after it was reported by the NewsAtDen that they failed to strike an agreement with Wolfsberger AC over a £3 million option to buy clause in his loan deal.
Can Lisbie Make The Step Up?
As his twin brother Kyreece has done this window, it now seems that it is Kyrell Lisbie’s turn to take a step up in divisions as Millwall eye a move for his services.
A deal will certainly be hard to come by after only recently striking a new contract in April with Peterborough United, who are well-known for driving a hard bargain when it comes to selling their top talents.
Lisbie will be key to their growth under Luke Williams if they can retain him, and with a healthy four years left on his deal at London Road, they can certainly maximise the profit from what they paid Braintree Town just 12 months ago.
With 14 goals to his name and an additional seven assists across 51 appearances in all competitions, the winger has made his mark in the EFL, and now drawn the attention of a Millwall side that is always keen on signing some of the brightest prospects from the lower tiers, as they did with Femi Azeez during his breakout season with Reading.
So while he is definitely capable of proving himself as a top star at a Millwall side that could finally push themselves into the promised land of the Premier League, the demands that Peterborough can place on Lisbie will make this a very tricky deal to complete.
