Yeovil Town are set to clinch their third signing of the summer, providing a further dent to a fellow National League side in the process.
The Glovers have already secured the signings of midfielder Zain Westbrooke on a free transfer, following his loan spell at Scunthorpe United – whilst also winning the race to sign Walton & Hersham’s Mason Obeng.
However, a recent teaser from Yeovil’s Twitter (now X) page confirmed that the coming week will see the club expand on those incomings with at least four more teased.
Courtesy of a recent report, we know the potential identity of one of those.
Yeovil set to raid National League rivals
Billy Rowley’s side have already confirmed the retention of several key players such as Luke McCormick, Ryan Jones and Jake Wannell – setting in stone a potentially promising 2026/27 campaign for the Glovers.
Yeovil have already (technically) raided one National League side this transfer window, and history is set to repeat itself once again.
As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Yeovil Town are set to complete the permanent signing of defender Joe Gubbins on a free transfer from fellow fifth-tier side Southend United.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at Roots Hall and was confirmed to be in ongoing negotiations regarding a new contract with the FA Trophy winners.
However, it now appears as though Gubbins is set to snub Southend in favour of moving to Yeovil, despite interest from several League Two sides
Gubbins made 34 league appearances for the Shrimpers last season, as well as being involved in their play-off defeat against Scunthorpe and their Wembley triumph, even scoring a penalty during the shootout.
Unfortunately for Southend supporters, it appears as though their Wembley success will ultimately be his final game for the club – alongside the likes of Gus Scott-Morriss, who has already left the club.
Should Yeovil fans be excited for next season?
Despite ending the season with a 4-1 defeat at home against Solihull Moors, Yeovil’s recent weeks have been full of positivity.
Their retained list confirmed that several key players (as already mentioned) have been retained going into next season, whilst improving the spine of their side with a former League One title-winner.
If Gubbins is one of the teased new arrivals for Yeovil, it would be their second time raiding higher-placed teams, suggesting a strong sense of ambition and positivity from the club’s recruitment team towards next season.
This would be further supported if they were to make more additions of a similar calibre.
With the transfer window still not yet officially open, Yeovil supporters are likely to feel a strong sense of excitement with the ambition and positivity that currently surrounds the football club.
