Adebayo Akinfenwa has confirmed that he has joined the investment group of phoenix club FC Farsley, joining former Wycombe Wanderers teammate David Stockdale.

The goalkeeper was appointed as the final manager of former National League North club Farsley Celtic during their tumultuous final season, and following their relegation to the ninth tier of English football, chose to purchase the side and liquidate it into its current identity.

Akinfenwa Joins Consortium

The new club has re-entered the pyramid ahead of their return, with the Leeds-based club joining the 12th tier in the coming months.

Now, ahead of their debut campaign, the club have announced that Adebayo Akinfenwa has joined the investment group propping up the club, which also includes the Stockdale family.

The pair played at Adams Park together in three different spells, with Stockdale bouncing around other EFL clubs across the striker’s six-year tenure in Buckinghamshire.

Speaking to the club’s media following confirmation of his arrival as a shareholder at Throstle next, Akinfenwa, who retired in 2022, said:

“When David and Katie (Stockdale) told me about their plans for FC Farsley, it was impossible not to get excited.

“I’ve known them both for many years, and I know the passion, honesty and hard work they put into everything they do. This isn’t just about football—it’s about building a club that genuinely serves its community and creates opportunities for people.

“Becoming a shareholder was an easy decision because I believe in the people leading the club and the vision they’ve created. I’m looking forward to helping wherever I can, meeting the supporters and being part of what I believe is going to be a really exciting future for FC Farsley.”

Long Path To Return

The circumstances that brought to an end Farsley Celtic were extremely disappointing, with a community ripped of their football club through no fault of their own and their side disappearing into obscurity.

Now, through the efforts of ex-Wycombe Wanderers teammates David Stockdale and Adebayo Akinfenwa, Farsley has returned under a new guise and back to playing regular football at their home of Throstle Nest.

Akinfenwa’s emergence as a new shareholder is yet more good news that the Leeds club can return back to their former heights, and with name recognition can bring much more attention to the side.

While it will be a long and hard journey to try and replicate the former side’s highest ever finish of a place in the National League North, the steps are being put in place to help Farsley rise back up the pyramid.
