Sheffield Wednesday-linked midfielder George Dobson is expected to remain with Wrexham for the time being, despite attracting interest from elsewhere in the Championship.
The 28-year-old has reportedly been considered by the Owls as Henrik Pedersen looks to add further depth to his squad before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. However, a Sheffield Star report states that Dobson is currently set to stay at the Racecourse Ground. Although circumstances could change during the remaining weeks of the window, a move to Hillsborough does not appear imminent.
Dobson made 40 appearances for Wrexham last season as they narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs. He had previously helped the Welsh club secure promotion from League One in 2025 and remains a popular member of Phil Parkinson’s squad.
The midfielder still has two years remaining on his Wrexham contract, leaving the club in a strong position regarding his future. He has also reportedly attracted interest from other Championship sides during the past month.

Dobson has extensive experience across the EFL, having represented Walsall, Sunderland, AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic before joining Wrexham. His defensive qualities and experience would have offered Pedersen another established option in the middle of the pitch.
Wednesday have already brought 12 new players to Hillsborough this summer, although further reinforcements are still required in central midfield and attacking areas.
The Owls are working within an EFL-agreed budget, meaning their remaining business is expected to focus largely on free agents and loan signings. Former Everton midfielder Tyler Onyango has been training with the club as they assess alternative options.
Sporting director Simon Wilson has previously warned that Wednesday’s transfer activity could continue deep into the window as the club attempts to complete its extensive rebuild.
“There are patterns to it, isn’t there? I think people try to get their business done early as much as possible. Ours is an extreme case because we need so many players, so we are probably more active than most.”
“As players come back and moves start to get made, there can be another round of activity, and there is obviously a lot more activity towards the end of the window. We are prepared that it might be messy for us this year.”
“Everyone is cool with that, we’re going to work through it, we’re going to make sure we maximise the opportunities that we have got. We can still improve things as we build out this team.”
Wednesday begin their competitive campaign by hosting Bolton Wanderers in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Saturday.
Dobson would provide proven Championship experience and strengthen an area in which Wednesday still require greater depth. However, his contract situation means Wrexham would be entitled to demand a significant fee, which may place the deal beyond the Owls’ current budget.
Unless the situation changes later in the window, Wednesday may be better served using their available resources on a free agent or loan signing while continuing to strengthen several positions.
