League One side Sheffield Wednesday are set for another transfer blow as it looks like one of their targets will be going elsewhere.

The Owls have had a tough job this summer rebuilding their depleted squad.

Things started fast and well for Henrik Pedersen’s side, with Sheffield Wednesday confirming key contract extensions and new signings, including Louie Barry and Callum Slattery.

That fast start has slowed in recent weeks, with Wednesday reviewing various options before the start of the season.

One such target was said to be Issac Olaofe, who it was reported the Owls and Leyton Orient were competing to sign on loan.

However, the latest update on the Charlton Athletic forward has thrown that up in the air.

Issac Olaofe in Advanced Talks with Championship Side

Shortly after the news about Olaofe being eyed by Wednesday and Leyton Orient, Pete O’Rourke confirmed that the forward is in advanced talks with Championship side Lincoln City.

The Imps are looking to make improvements to their squad ahead of what will be a tough test in the second tier.

For the Owls, it’s a big blow as their hunt for a striker continues with the start of the new season just over a week away.

Who Next for Sheffield Wednesday?

Wednesday’s search for more goals has seen them linked with an array of strikers this summer.

They have brought in Barry, who has shown he can score goals at this level, but he will likely play from the left.

Wednesday also signed Mason Burstow on loan from Hull City. The forward scored 12 goals last season, but the Owls seem keen for more goals in their side.

One option is Jerry Yates. He spent the second half of last season on loan at the Owls, but since his return to Luton Town, there hasn’t been much talk of a return to Hillsborough.

Yates seems to be available this summer after it was confirmed he wasn’t given a squad number by Luton for the upcoming campaign.

He would bring experience to the Wednesday side, something they still need to add. While he showed in his short spell last season he can produce, scoring four goals in an Owls squad that were struggling.

They might also dip into the loan market to bring in more young quality.

The Wednesday Word reported recently that Tottenham Hotspur’s Dane Scarlett was one potential young striker the Owls were considering.

A move for him would add quality, but it hasn’t gone any further than just interest since the report.
