Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign one of this year’s shining stars of the World Cup, Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur, in a move that could benefit all parties. However, they could face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool for his signature.
Michael Carrick’s side have been quiet in the Premier League transfer window so far, with many of their high-profile pursuits failing to get over the line. Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow and Cristian Orozco have so far joined the club for a combined total of approximately £80 million.
However, a third midfielder, another attacking option, and a left-back are all still high priorities for the Old Trafford outfit.
Tottenham Hotspur Offer England Star Djed Spence to Manchester United and Liverpool
One of the shining stars of England’s World Cup campaign was the performance of Djed Spence. His high-action, often ‘edge of your seat’ defending raised his profile amongst potential suitors.
However, the decision-makers at the club could be ready to cash in on their star and have offered both Liverpool and Manchester United the opportunity to sign him.
Ben Jacobs, speaking on the United Stand, revealed the information, whilst also indicating that new Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi would ideally like to keep him in the squad.
It is not known yet whether either party have opened talks with their fellow Premier League counterparts over a move.
Man Utd Miss Out on Lewis Hall from Newcastle United
It is well documented that Jason Wilcox and the Man Utd board’s favoured target was Lewis Hall of Newcastle United. However, it is becoming increasingly likely that the player will not make the move after several high-profile outgoings from the club.
The 21-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to Manchester, but the slow movement could have prevented a deal.
Could Djed Spence Be the Answer for Michael Carrick?
Spence is versatile and can operate on the left or right side of defence, as well as having an impact higher up the pitch.
With Luke Shaw’s injury record and Dorgu’s potential move further forward, it leaves the options at left-back looking low.
Dalot has often moved out to the left-hand side from his favoured right-back position, but a more natural left back is needed with a Champions League campaign ahead of them.
His ability to get on the ball, drive past defenders and put in a low cross could benefit the likes of Benjamin Sesko or even Mbeumo, who often makes a late move into the box to finish off chances.
Whilst it isn’t guaranteed that he will move to Manchester United, it does seem to be an ideal fit.
