Rotherham United Miss Out On Free Agent Striker Following Scottish Championship Offer

Rotherham United‘s hopes of signing free agent Bruce Anderson have been handed a devastating blow after it was revealed that the striker is set to move to Livingston.

Alex Bruce took a keen interest in the former Kilmarnock man during the Millers’ pre-season preparations and was keen on bringing the forward in as a potential successor to Sam Nombe.

Talks Fail As Livi Complete Swoop

However, Rotherham are now believed to have missed out on signing their free-agent target, with the Daily Record’s Scott Burns revealing that Anderson is now set to sign for Livingston.

Talks had been held over a potential switch to South Yorkshire, but instead the 27-year-old will return to his former club, who are now competing in the Scottish Championship following relegation last season.

It is set to be his second stint in West Lothian, having played 115 times for the club between 2021 and 2024, before opting to move to Kilmarnock on a free transfer.

Rotherham have since made progress on other fronts in securing striking options ahead of the new League Two season, having completed a deal to sign Wrexham‘s Paul Mullin on a two-year deal.

They have also looked at other free agent players, with Kyle Vassell also of interest as he searches for a new club, with Alex Bruce not ruling out a move while he was on trial at League One side Burton Albion.

Millers Search Goes On

Having finally secured an option with great League Two pedigree in the form of Paul Mullin, Rotherham United now need to search for options to complement the three-time promotion winner at this level.

While Bruce Anderson could have proved to be a worthwhile addition as an option to Alex Bruce’s ranks, ultimately they have been pipped by Livingston, who will be keen for him to be a star in their push to get back into the Scottish Premiership.

After their full clearout in the wake of their relegation, there is little depth available to the Millers beyond Mullin, and bringing in extra bodies with time running out before the season starts is now pivotal.

That issue goes across the whole squad, with Bruce frequently flagging that he does not have enough senior players on their books to fill out a squad in their pre-season contests.
